Cover Cropping for Resiliency
Field Day, Creston, October 2 at Kootenay Meadows Organic Dairy

Participants joined Wayne and Erin Harris of Kootenay Meadows to see the application of crimping cover crops to create a thick mulch to conserve soil moisture and suppress weeds in the development of a forage stand. A cover crop of fall rye (5 - 6 feet tall) was 'crimped' in June with a custom built roller using blue prints from the Rodale Institute. Alfalfa was no-till drilled below the mulch and establishment has been positive.
